The interesting fact about oil, is that there are over 4900 brand name oils available around the country, however there are only 9 companies in the country that provide base oil stocks to make lubricants. In addition, there are only four companies in the country that produce the chemical additives that are added to the base oil stocks which make the various types of lubricants.

Not only the crude oil used, but more importantly, the process in which it was produced determines the quality and differences between base oil stocks.
